Zinc Oxide is a white powder that is insoluble in water. It occurs naturally as the mineral zincite but is most often produced synthetically.
Chemical Formula: ZnO
Appearance: A white, water-soluble ionic compound.
Uses:
Pigment: Provides a white pigment or pigment extender in paints, coatings, and varnishes to provide opacity.
Skin Care and Sunscreens: Zinc oxide is used in cosmetics and skincare products, such as sunscreens, lotions, creams, and ointments, as a UV filter, skin protectant, and soothing agent.
Rubber Compounding: In rubber compounding, zinc oxide can be used as a reinforcing filler or processing aid to improve tensile strength, and tear resistance.
Rubber Industry: In tire manufacturing zinc oxide is used as an activator in the vulcanization process of rubber to improve cross-linking efficiency.
Ceramics and Glass Manufacturing: Acts as a fluxing agent or opacifier in ceramic glazes and enamels.
Paint and Coating Industry: It helps create durable, long-lasting, and aesthetically pleasing finishes on substrates, including metal, wood, and masonry.
