Lithium Hydroxide is an inorganic alkali metal hydroxide consisting of lithium cations (Li⁺) and hydroxide anions (OH⁻). It has a strong base and is highly soluble in water, forming a colorless to white, alkaline solution. It is commercially available in grades, including technical grade and high-purity grades.
Chemical Formula: LiOH
Appearance: A white, odorless, and hygroscopic (moisture-absorbing) solid.
Uses:
Chemical Synthesis: Lithium hydroxide serves as a reagent in chemical synthesis processes, particularly in organic chemistry. It is employed in the production of lithium salts, pharmaceuticals, catalysts, and specialty chemicals.
Ceramics and Glass Manufacturing: Utilized in the production of specialty glasses, ceramics, and ceramics glazes. Lithium hydroxide-containing glazes are employed in pottery and ceramic art to achieve desired surface finishes and colors.
Grease and Lubricants: Lithium hydroxide is used in the manufacturing of lithium-based greases and lubricating oils. These lubricants exhibit excellent mechanical stability, water resistance, and temperature tolerance.
