Citric Acid Anhydrous is derived from citrus fruits or produced synthetically through fermentation processes. It is a natural organic acid with a sour taste.  Commonly appears as a white, odorless powder. Soluble in water and is widely used in industries due to its acidity, chelating properties, and ability to enhance flavors.

Chemical Formula: C₆H₈O₇

 Appearance: A crystalline compound.

Uses:

  • Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products: This compound is used as an excipient in pharmaceutical formulations, particularly in effervescent tablets, syrups, and oral solutions.

  • Food and Beverage Industry: Citric acid anhydrous is widely used as a food acidulant to impart a tart or sour taste to food and beverage products. Utilized in the production of soft drinks, fruit juices, carbonated beverages, and flavored syrups to enhance acidity and balance flavors.

  • Flavor Enhancer: In addition to providing acidity, it serves as a flavor enhancer in food products, including candies, jams, jellies, sauces, and confectionery items. It helps enhance fruit flavors and mask undesirable tastes.

  • Preservative: It acts as a preservative in food and beverage formulations by lowering the pH and creating an acidic environment that inhibits the growth of bacteria, molds, and yeast. It helps extend the shelf life of products and maintain their freshness.

  • Antioxidant: Citric acid anhydrous also exhibits antioxidant properties, which help prevent oxidative degradation of food products and inhibit the formation of off-flavors and off-odors caused by lipid oxidation.
