Sodium Bisulfite is also known as sodium hydrogen sulfite. It is an unstable salt that readily releases sulfur dioxide (SO₂) in aqueous solutions and commonly used as a reducing agent, antioxidant, and preservative.
Chemical Formula: NaHSO₃
Appearance: White to yellowish crystalline solid.
Uses:
Food Industry: It is added to food products, such as dried fruits, wines, and canned vegetables, to prevent oxidation and inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. Generally used in the production of white sugar to remove impurities and colorants, resulting in a pure, white product.
Disinfection:  It acts as a disinfectant and sanitizer in swimming pools and spas, effectively killing bacteria, algae, and other microorganisms.
Photography: Utilized as a developing agent in photographic solutions to reduce silver halides to metallic silver, producing black-and-white photographic prints and films.
Antioxidant: It is used in some winemaking and brewing processes as an antioxidant to prevent browning and preserve flavor.
