Zinc Chloride exists in forms, including the anhydrous form (without water molecules) and several hydrated forms (containing water molecules) highly soluble in water.
Chemical Formula: ZnCl₂
Appearance: White crystalline solid.
Uses:
Lewis acid catalyst: Acts as a Lewis acid catalyst in chemical reactions, particularly for alkylation and acylation reactions.
Electroplating: Used in some electroplating baths for depositing a thin layer of zinc on other metals for corrosion protection and other purposes.
Flux: A primary use is as a flux in soldering, brazing, and galvanizing processes.
Chemical industry: A starting material to produce other zinc-based chemicals like zinc sulfate and zinc oxide.
Textile industry: Acts as a flame-retardant formulation for textiles to improve fire resistance and dyeing and printing processes.
·Laboratory Research: Used in laboratory experiments and analytical procedures.
